Small guide about Windows tools :]

Things that'll be covered:

・How to access terminals ・Commands for each terminal ・Programs and what they do

1 - 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀

・To access Run, press Windows key + R

・To access the Command Terminal, type ‘Command Prompt’ into the Start menu's search bar and press ‘Run as administrator’. When asked if you want to allow it to make changes to your device, press ‘Yes’.

・Alternatively, instead of using Run commands, you can open Command Prompt as admin and type ‘control admintools’ to show and open each program. You can also open the Start menu and scroll through the programs list until you see a folder called ‘Windows Administrative Tools’.

2 - 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀

・msconfig: System configuration

・appsfolder: View all apps, including hidden ones

・tasklist: View all running processes

・taskkill: Force-close a process

・%temp%: Open temporary files folder

・cleanmgr: Open Disk Cleanup

・mrt: Malware Removal Tool

・regedit: Open Registry Editor

・powershell: Open PowerShell

・appwiz.cpl: Add and remove programs

・devmgmt.msc: Open Device Manager

・dfrgui.msc: Open Disk Defragmenter

・perfmon: Open Performance Monitor

3 - 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀

・copy: Copies files somewhere else (example: copy example.txt D:\Documents)

・del: Delete files (example: del example.txt)

・rename: Rename files (example: rename example.txt example2.txt)

・move: Move files (example: move example.txt D:\Documents)

・type: Display contents of text files (example: type example.txt)

・edit: Edit text files in the Command Prompt (example: edit example.txt)

4 - 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗨𝘀𝗲

・Disk Cleanup: Clear unnecessary files from a selected hard drive

・Disk Defragmenter: Organises scattered files, making hard drives read said files faster

・Task Manager: View how many resources a program is using and force-close programs (𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘪𝘧 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘱𝘱 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘻𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦)

・Performance Monitor: View how many resources are being used

・Registry Editor: Edit certain files' value data and value names

・Command Terminal: Basic command executor

・PowerShell: More advanced version of Command Prompt

・Run: Opens management apps and accesses hidden/hard-to-find files

・Programs and Features: Uninstall and change programs

・Computer Management: Access system tools

・Event Viewer: Show logs of what's happened on your PC

・Task Scheduler: Create and manage scheduled tasks

・Recovery Drive: Create recovery/backup drives to reinstall Windows or reset your PC and troubleshoot problems
