- What's the first brickplanet-esque website
Idk what this genre of website is called, but websites like Brickplanet, Brïck Hill, Pölytoria, etc.
These kinda sites have existed since like 2012 and serve as a sort of roblox alternative, w a particular focus on on-site features like forums rather than a game client. IK some of the earliest are World2Build and Jwist, but its my understanding that they were a part of the same roblox-alternative nexus, wherein their playerbases largely consisted of the same people.
Does anyone know what was the first site? Who was the founder? The OGs of these sites, if theyre still active today?
I assume you are referring to SANS (Social Avatar Network Script) websites. This is widely debated, but there were actually several that came before the rest, specifically Jwist and Social-Paradise back in 2011-2012. Jwist was created first in 2011, and Isaac helped out with that from a web perspective, but Social-Paradise was Isaac's actual website and easily one of the most popular at the time. Both websites had 2D avatars and were essentially a competitor (or an attempt) to "the big guy", featuring a shop, a 2D game, forums, chats, and groups. At that point, we just hadn't quite figured out the 3D technology yet.
Over the years, the original code for Social-Paradise got leaked. Because it was essentially a learning project, developers came and went, and some of them were untrustworthy. That leak is what became known as the official "Social Avatar Network Script," and it is what most of the clones that came after were made from.
BLOX City, under Isaac in 2016, was the first website to utilize a 3D avatar renderer and 3D game technology before the rest of the 2D SANS websites did, and ultimately it transformed into Brick Planet in 2018. Technology today is obviously more advanced, so more games are able to exist now with 3D games and avatars.
But long story short, Isaac was the original creator of what became "Brick Planet-esque" games. He started with 2D, migrated it to 3D, and now it seems like everyone wants a hand in the pot.

Wow, thanks for this response! I had no idea Isaac pioneered it all.
You say "<we> hadn't figured out 3D technology", I assume you were a dev back then too?

Correct! I was actually a player on Social-Paradise, and eventually had an opportunity to help out with web development for it. I've been around for a while, despite my very nooby join date on Brick Planet.

That's so awesome. Have you always gone by 'sunlessearth', or did you go by a different alias then?

sunlessearth is a new name for me, but I'll keep my original identity secret sauce.

No problem! Thanks for the question. It is definitely an interesting topic that no one seems to have the facts behind. Glad I could share a little noggin' files with you.

Dang, I didn't know about Jwist until now. I thought that SP was the first "Roblox Clone" or whatever in 2012.

That's cool. Crazy how you were on SP when I was literally 5 years old in kindergarten ..
