I'll really buy it
Homer's book, The Odyssey written between 725-675 BCE, is the first time we've seen a mention of The City of Troy and The Trojan Horse. For thousands of years though, we thought that The City of Troy and the use of The Trojan Horse was just a myth. This version of Troy was built on top of an older Troy (Troy I), archeologists refer to this as Troy II. For clarification, Troy I is older than Troy II and Troy II is the one that got destroyed by the infamous Trojan Horse.
In comes Heinrich Schliemann, a German "archeologist". In 1868 he got permission from the Ottomans (Would now be Turks) to excavate an area he thought was the location of the long lost Troy. Miraculously, he found it. Unfortunately though, he used dynamite to excavate the area and he destroyed Troy II. Troy I still remains though.
